Day 2: From Zonies to Enchantment

'Beauty in front of me.  Beauty behind me.  Beauty all around me.'  ~Navajo blessing

Today was a long one.  Over 640 miles.  We sat still, and yet traveled really fast.  Kinda strange when you look at it that way.  The interstate has had fairly light traffic and courteous drivers.  My words can't do justice to the surrounding colors.  And the sky has such character.

We left the motel in Kingman AZ this morning around 8:30 and arrived in Tucumcari NM 11 hours later.  Tired and ready to get out of the car!  It's a 10-hour trip, but I took about an hour's worth of needed breaks along the way.  It works.  As much as I'd like to stop and enjoy some sights on this trip, I need to be in Tennessee Friday afternoon, so full throttle it is.  Regardless, it's enjoyable for me.

The girls are doing so great.  They are good little road dogs.  Their set up is comfy, with water and a daily bully stick.  Plenty of breaks.

Eastward Ho!
I prefer rest areas for our breaks when they're convenient. They're clean.  They have fresh air.  We all get to stretch out and walk around a bit.  They get to read some p-mails, reply to a few, and pose.

We stopped at one today - the Meteor Crater Rest Area.  It's a good one.  It's just west of Winslow on I-40.

As I said earlier on FB, I've been here before on a motorcycle trip.  It was chilly today, and I was so glad to be in a car.  With temperature control.  And audio book.

Road food was novel today.  Fried zucchini at one stop.  DQ Blizzard at another.  Pumpkin Pie, with chunks of pie, whipped cream, and nutmeg.  She smiled and flipped it upsidedown before handing it to me.  :)  Grateful for a salad tonight.

Steady there, Jr

My 'old' friend Flash, from my music days, contacted me on FB asking if I'd stop to see them on my way through Memphis.  We talked on the phone today, caught up a little.  He sounds the same.  What fun!  One cool cat, for sure.  Still in the music biz, too.  He and his wife are good people.  Man we used to party.  And lived to tell about it.

The clouds got thicker and darker as I drove on, and was gifted with yet another double rainbow.  This one spread from one end of the horizon to the other.  Rainbows are amazing.  And then ... RAIN!

Today was the longest, and tomorrow is just a few miles shorter.  White line fever is settling in.
We're halfway there!
Zzzzzzz time ...
