Happiness is OUTSIDE |
Texas rest stops are pretty outrageous. They are more like museums. This one was pretty snootypants because they don't allow pets inside. So we played frisbee on the dried grass (they need rain here, too). They had plenty of running room, so the tongues were soon lolling.
The inside was a showcase for Route 66. This 4' x 6' tile mosaic was on the Women's bathroom wall. Texas rest stops are crazy fancy.
There was an unfancy sign scotch-taped to the front doors that read 'No Pets Allowed,' so I didn't linger inside. Someone's Rover probably lifted a leg on a display. Bad owner! I did, however, notice that there were actually a few dogs inside ...
Kudos to the decorator!
We rolled on through Texas and into Oklahoma's green, lush rolling hills ... where we found the biggest, greenest, lushest rest area ever! The bathrooms were shiny and air-conditioned. So many sprawling lawns it was hard to choose one to play fetch on. This one was on the right as we were heading out. Lots of trees in the back, and tipi picnic tables scattered around. Well done, Oklahoma!
It was good to cross into Arkansas. The trees are starting to change color. Gorgeous. Plus, my brother's girls live here - I can feel family close by. Hoping for some time for a quick visit on my way back. Lucky me - fall colors and warm fuzzies. Life is good.

Home is where the dogs are! |
Got into Russellville, hopped off the highway and into a very nice downstairs corner room. Unpacked, settled in and ready for some zzzzz's. Tomorrow - Tennessee!
