From Fruits & Nuts to Zonie Land

I'M FINALLY ON VACATION!!!  Once again, I saved my days off to attend the ASCA Nationals.  I love to watch my favorite breed do all the things they do in one place.  Stock, conformation, tracking, rally, obedience and agility.  This year, it's all agility for us.  And Tennessee is the furthest I've traveled for this 10-day event.  Today's destination:  Kingman, Arizona.

Shotgun Shark

Left the house around 9 this morning.  Everything fit nicely including Jemima in her harness in the backseat, Vixen in her Thundershirt in her crate, and Jr on the back of tricks in the front seat.

I'm happy to report that the Thundershirt seems to help.  I even caught her dozing a few times.  Plus, I'm staying away from the evil vibrations, doing my best to avoid bumps.  Keeps me vigilant.

Pumpkin herders

Easy trip down Hwy 1 through Santa Cruz, and over to 5 via Pacheco, with a stop in between at Casa de Fruita.  Great place to stop!  Plenty of parking, nice bathrooms, big store with tons of yummy including produce from the surrounding farm lands, a restaurant, gas station, toy train.  Their harvest decorations were outrageous.

Later on we stopped at a nice rest area off 5 near Coalinga.  There was a grassy area, so I brought out the frisbees.  Girls said YES!!  We got through Bakersfield with the help of a chicken/artichoke sandwich and a cold brew from Starbucks, and then headed over Tehachapi Pass.  Stopped in another rest area on the other side of Barstow.  The trees were well-tended in the desert environment.  It was a mighty tidy place.  The surrounding colors were gorgeous.

We continued east across the Mojave and were greeted with this beauty.  There were actually two, side  by side - you can almost see the one on the left in this shot.

Good omen!

And then we drove into some rain.  RAIN!  There is nothing like the smell of the desert in a first rain.  Well maybe horses.  And cinnamon toast.  It was awesome.

Arrived in Kingman after 7.  The motel is right off I-40.  Because of the dogs, I often do Motel 6 because there are no hassles, and this one is very clean.  And I'm picky.  I'd stay here again.

Zzzzzzz time ....
